Monsoon Driving Tips for the Mumbai-Goa Highway

These monsoon driving tips for the Mumbai-Goa highway start with the basics: slower speeds, longer following distances, and extra caution through the ghat sections where visibility and road grip both drop sharply in heavy rain.

Monsoon driving tips for the Mumbai-Goa highway: Start before you leave

Wiper condition and tyre tread matter more in June through September than any other time of year. Both are quick checks before you leave and genuinely difficult problems to discover mid-journey.

Slow down before the ghat sections, not during them

Sections like Kashedi Ghat already demand caution in clear weather — in heavy rain, reduce speed well before you enter the curves, not once you're already in them and reacting to reduced grip.

Increase following distance further than feels necessary

Wet-road stopping distances are meaningfully longer than dry ones. The gap that feels like plenty on a clear day often isn't enough once the road is wet.

Avoid travelling after dark during heavy rain if you can help it

The combination of rain, reduced visibility, and unlit stretches is where most monsoon-related breakdowns and incidents cluster. If your schedule allows daylight travel instead, it's a genuinely safer trade.

Watch for waterlogged sections, not just rain itself

Standing water can hide potholes and road damage that are otherwise easy to see and avoid. Where you can, follow the tyre tracks of a vehicle ahead through a flooded stretch rather than choosing your own line.

If the weather does cause a breakdown

Jhatpat's dispatch already accounts for monsoon conditions in coverage planning — response can take a little longer in heavy rain, and we'd rather be upfront about that than promise something the weather won't allow.
